SUNNYVALE, CA, April 9, 2002 - Industry veteran Thomas T. van Overbeek has been appointed chief executive officer of Shoreline Communications, a developer of enterprise-class IP PBX systems.
Van Overbeek has extensive experience in leading successful growth initiatives at multiple venture-backed technology companies. Most recently he was president and CEO of Wavtrace, Inc., a wireless broadband access systems developer, which was sold to Harris Corporation in Fall 2000. From 1988 to 1998, he was president and CEO of Cornerstone Imaging, Inc., which he led from start up to an initial public offering in 1993. Prior to that, he spent four years at Paradise Systems as VP of marketing and sales, and later as president. Under his leadership, the company sustained exceptional sales growth and was sold to Western Digital.
"Tom has an impressive track record in leading young companies through challenging environments and getting them to rapid and sustainable growth," said Seth Neiman, managing partner at Crosspoint Venture Partners. "He has the right combination of experience and skills needed to turn Shoreline's product and technology lead into industry leadership."
"Voice over IP continues to be a growth area despite challenges in other communications-related markets," said William Elmore, general partner at Foundation Capital. "With the robust growth anticipated in this sector, we believe Shoreline Communications is one of the most exciting companies in our investment portfolio."
"IP-PBX systems accounted for 1 out of every 8 lines shipped in the U.S. voice systems market in 2001," said Frank Stinson, senior analyst at InfoTech, a global telecommunications research and consulting company. "Continued strong growth is anticipated over the next five years, with IP-PBX shipments expected to surpass combined traditional Key/Hybrid and PBX systems in 2006."
"Opportunities like this come once in a career," said van Overbeek. "Besides addressing a huge market, the company has tier one investors with previous successes like Extreme Networks, Brocade and Juniper Networks, and it has a unique, winning technology. The integration of telephony functionality with the PC desktop is inevitable. Shoreline has a compelling solution that works reliably today."
Shoreline focuses on systems for organizations with 100 to 1,500 employees. It provides a reliable IP phone system with a truly distributed switch architecture, thus eliminating any single point of failure. This unique approach means customers benefit from the reduced cost and increased productivity of an IP PBX without having to sacrifice phone system availability.
